Wiltshire Life Award for Local Residents' Associations
In 2011, Longmeadow TARA were shortlisted in the Wiltshire Life Awards Community Group Section along with Wiltshire Ambulance and Swift Medics. The Chairman, James McDonald, with his wife Helen, and Secretary, Janet Gould travelled to Marlborough in March for an interesting evening meeting other nominees in various classes.
Longmeadow TARA came runners-up - a great achievement for this hardworking local group.
They run coffee mornings, youth drop-in sessions, computer classes and much more at Longfield Community Centre. The area now boasts football teams and a Carnival Club, both of which are run by members of this TARA.

Trowbridge Carnival & Soapbox Derby 2011
Trowbridge once again came alive with the Carnival Spirit on Saturday 23rd October 2011. The weather was perfect (if slightly chilly!) so everyone was able to warm up as the large floats went by with all the light bulbs blazing!
For the procession, we were fortunate to have 4 marching bands: The Dolphin Marching Band from Poole, OiSambistas (bringing a little bit of Rio de Janeiro to the streets of Trowbridge!), the Southern Jacobites Pipe Band and the local Wiltshire Youth Marching Band: the procession wound through the town with floats, dance troupes, individual masqueraders and bands, all delighting the crowds. Many thanks must go to all the volunteers who turned out to ensure the success of the Carnival, in particular the stewards and bucket collectors.
Trowbridge Carnival 2012
Saturday 20th October saw the big night for this year, when the procession began its course from Canal Road at 7.00pm, finishing at Cradle Bridge and, this year, there were even more local entries. Musical entertainment along the route was provided by the Wiltshire Youth Marching Band, Brazilian samba specialists OiSambistas (from Devizes!) and, this year, renowned Swiss carnival band The Harlekinos. Later in the evening, the traditional Carnival Presentation & Disco was held at the Wesley Road Club. Preparations for 2013's Carnival proceedings will get underway early in the New Year - click here for details of the Committee's AGM.
The Sunday Club
THE SUNDAY CLUB
November 4th saw the doors of the Civic Centre open again to The Sunday Club – a social club for older, more vulnerable members of Trowbridge and surrounding district. This Club had originally started at the old Civic Hall so the members were very keen to take a look at the new facilities and declared it a great success at the end of the afternoon – bright, warm and welcoming.
The members meet monthly for an afternoon of entertainment, raffles, bingo, talks, exercises and buffet refreshments. It is a safe place to gather and chat, meet old friends and make new ones. There are outings arranged to the beach and other places of interest.
Costs are £2.50 for Trowbridge Residents, £3.50 for non-Trowbridge Residents and £4.50 for those Trowbridge Residents with Blue Badges requiring transport to the Civic Centre.
Latest News
The Sunday Club has certainly been keeping busy over recent weeks! Early November saw the club’s return to the Civic Centre for our regular get-togethers, and later in the month almost 40 members enjoyed a day out at Whitehall Garden Centre near Lacock. There was plenty of time to catch up on some Christmas shopping, a fantastic lunch was enjoyed and everyone was made to feel very welcome by the Centre’s friendly staff. The return journey to Trowbridge was a bit of a 'mystery tour', made all the more interesting by the recently flooded countryside.
On December 2nd, many club members and friends enjoyed a splendid Christmas party at the Civic Centre. Over 70 people enjoyed a traditional lunch, followed by a raffle and a bit of a seasonal knees-up!
The first club meeting of 2013 was held on January 13th at the Civic Centre: for a full list of our dates in 2013, click here. In the meantime, a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all Sunday Club members!
