Eat 4 Fitness Fit To Play

The Aim ...
With childhood obesity on the increase, it is now estimated that at least 10% of all 6 year olds
and 17% of 15 year olds are now clinically obese (Source - www.nhs.uk).

How?
Through a six week program.
The programme is specifically designed to educate children about healthy eating and living, in a way that is fun, engaging, and inspiring as well as encouraging them to play as a form of exercise.

Active Trowbridge will facilitate the lessons for year 5 students.
2 hours a week over 6 weeks with the support of their teachers and assistants. Half of the students will take part in the classroom activity while the other half will take part in a sports activity. After an hour they swap over and the lessons are repeated.
Over the course of the program students will cover the following:

Classroom based theory and practical activities:

  • The digestion system
  • Healthy foods
  • Food groups
  • Making fruit kebabs
  • Making vegetable pizza’s
  • 5-a-day
  • Poverty

    Outdoor sporting activities:

    • Individual circuit training
    • How to take pulse
    • Games in pairs
    • Games in small groups
    • Tag games
    • Games in large groups
    • Army style assault course

All of the games are designed using minimal equipment so the children are able to recreate the activities at home with their families or friends.

      National Curriculum
Following the pilot scheme at Grove School we have been able to tie it in with the national curriculum in physical education, science and technology ensuring there is no negative affect to the child’s learning.
