Trowbridge In Bloom |
| |
Trowbridge in Bloom originated as part of the Town Council's Town Promotion committee, which brought together local retailers, organisations and volunteers within the community, whose common aim was to work together to brighten the town centre florally and tackle such issues as keeping the streets clear of graffiti and fly-posting.
Over the years this project has expanded with the creation of the Friends of Trowbridge in Bloom, a committee encompassing a wide variety of organisations and voluntary groups, such as neighbourhood groups who work on improving the look of their estates, reducing vandalism and anti-social behaviour. Nursing homes and disabled groups who take a mutually beneficial participatory role in many activities and initiatives, schools and gardening trusts who work together on educating the next generation in bio-diversity, allotment associations and country parks who encourage sustainability, to name but a few. Community involvement is the main focus in creating a common feeling of town pride within both our business and community environment.

Following on from the success of SWiB 2011, which saw Trowbridge scoop a Gold Award in the St Bridget Cup class for larger towns, members of the Friends of Trowbridge in Bloom Committee are working hard to go one better this year – and bring home the Cup!

With the launch of Trowbridge in Bloom 2012 having taken place in February at the new Civic Centre, and competition entry forms having been reviewed and simplified this year, there is something for everyone to participate in. New for this year are a separate category for churches, and one for licensed premises. All commercial entrants will now take part in the popular Pride in Business Awards, focusing on town pride.
Arrangements are already underway to plant up the town’s entrance boxes, planters and hanging baskets in a theme of red, white and blue, celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, and you may well see the introduction of some ‘bee-friendly’ plants and wild meadow areas complimenting areas of unused grassland along the highways, a project to be undertaken by the Friends of Trowbridge in Bloom who have recognised the decline in pollinating insects.

With the completion of the new Civic Centre in
Trowbridge
Park in December 2011, a small orchard is to be planted in the landscaped area to the rear of the Centre, overlooked by the terrace of Café Culture. Trees will be planted in memory of Martin Askey, a former member of the Friends of the Biss Meadows Country Park, who sadly died last year.

Sponsorship Opportunities
There are many ways for companies to promote their business around the town working in partnership with the "Friends of Trowbridge In Bloom"
Various flower beds around the town and on roundabouts give you the opportunity to sponsor with your business logo and contact details in prominent posistions and with high volumes of passing traffic. Currently priced at £250 per annum for a single sign, and with deals available for multiply signs.
Last year, over 200 hanging baskets went up on lamp columns, and on business premises, within the Town Centre area. This resulted in a remarklable floral display for every one to see. If your town centre business would like to be part of this every summer then we offer each hanging basket complet with daily watering and feeding for £50 per basket. These baskets are not like the ones you buy in the local DIY store!
If you would like to take up either of the offers, or even offer sponsorship to an award which is given every year to local schools, community and town centre businesses please contact Nick Allford 01225 765072
