Schools - After School Clubs
Sport England targets between 2008-2011:
- all 5-16 year olds participate in two hours of high quality physical education each week at school
- all 5-19 year olds participate in three hours of high quality sport each week delivered through a range of school, community and club providers (source: www.sportengland.org)
To help schools achieve this target we are currently running 17 after school clubs in 9 different primary schools in and around Trowbridge.
Qualified sports coaches are currently coaching the following sports:
- Football
- Tag Rugby
- Basketball
- Hockey
- Multi Skills
- Ultimate Frisbee
- New Age Kurling
- Kwik Cricket
- Volleyball
If you are interested in starting an after school club or require more information email info@activetrowbridge.co.uk or call 01225 711100
Schools - Mid-Day Supervision
Predominantly schools employ mid-day supervisors to oversee lunch time activities; however we have teamed up with 2 schools to offer sports coaches during these times to facilitate activities.
The sports coaching will not only provide the school with increased organised physical activity but also benefit children at the school, in particular those that are not able to participate in after school clubs.
If you are interested in Mid-Day Supervision or require more information email info@activetrowbridge.co.uk or call 01225 711100

Sports Roadshow The Sports Roadshow is run and funded by Trowbridge Town Council. Its aim is to provide the children of the town with sporting activities within their particular area throughout the summer months. The Roadshow gives children the opportunity to take part in a wide range of sports e.g uni-hoc, volleyball, football and short tennis. It also gives them the chance to meet up with old friends or make new friends whilst trying out sports which may be new to them.
Children are free to come and go throughout the day and participate in any activity they wish. Children under 8 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.
The Roadshow visits a number of different locations around Trowbridge - Longfield, Studley Green, Seymour, Broadmead, Elm Grove Farm and the town park, normally between 10am - 4pm each day (weather permitting) although times may alter at specific events. The timetable for events is published each year.
Equipment is set up and supervised by recreation assistants. Supervision is carried out either by giving one to one assistance, creating team game activities, refereeing games or instruction to children on rules and techniques of sports. The staff help to create a safe environment whilst keeping watch on the equipment, supervising the bouncy castle and giving children great new opportunities.
There is also the opportunity to book the Roadshow for any school or community event throughout the year. All you need is a suitable location such as a a hall or field and we will do the rest.
For more information on the Sports Roadshow contact Amy Ramsay or Tom Foord on 01225 711100

Trowbridge Annual Festival of Fun - TAFF
Group History
The projects seeks to involve young people aged 13 – 19 in a variety of activities and particularly targets: Single parents, young offenders, disabled people, low income families, people with learning difficulties, young people excluded from school and others.
Our activities are selected to give young people experiences that they might not otherwise have access to because of family circumstances or events. We try to ensure a good mixture of life skills, education, social interaction and fun activities which are fully accessible. The variety within each programme means that we can use certain activities as a ‘carrot’ to participation in other activities which are not as attractive to the young people we work with. An example would be that for every CIEH course they attend they get a discounted or free trip to a theme park or leisure facility, the list of courses is outlined below.
Young people can obtain Nationally Recognised Certificates and build themselves a Record of Achievement to use in either returning to education or finding employment.
We offer team & confidence building training in addition to less formal types of education in I.T, Arts and Crafts, Job Search, CV Writing and Nationally Recognised Qualifications in H & S, Food Hygiene, First Aid, COSHH, Manual Handling and Fire Training all selected to improve opportunities for employment and give access to courses other people take for granted.
We work closely with all minority groups including Racial Equality Council, Moroccan and Afro Caribbean Societies and also take referrals from Youth Offending Teams, Social Services, Amber Foundation, Action on Homeless and we are confident it targeting hard to reach groups to encourage participation.
Who we work with
We take referrals from Social Services, Fostering Agencies, Youth Offending Team, Youth Development Service, Splash, Amber Foundation, and others. This may be simply providing a place on one of our activities or it may be supporting a young person directly with learning support facilitator.
