Trowbridge has always been the natural market for the surrounding villages and neighbouring towns and is exceptionally well-equipped as a shopping centre.
Two large shopping centres, Castle Place and The Shires, are linked by Fore Street, the town's pedestrian-priority main street. As well as having a traditional and family-run independent department store, Knees, established in 1879, the town has an indoor market hall, which operates from Castle Place Shopping Centre six days a week.
A variety of smaller, but well-established, specialist shops can be found in Castle Street and Church Walk.
Shoppers and visitors alike can have refreshments in one of the many pubs, cafés or restaurants which can be found throughout the town.

Local farmers markets are held in Fore Street on the 4th Friday of every month from 9.00-1.30pm, and prove very popular.

Several car parks are located within easy walking distance of the compact town centre, where a mix of privately-owned businesses and national chains offer a variety of goods and services.
Parking in The Shires car park is on a pay and display basis. Parking in the Castle Place/St Stephen's Place multi-storey car park is free for a period of two hours. Alternative car parks are available.
