Our popular annual event will this year be taking place in the Town Park, outside the Civic Centre.
Following consideration by the Policy & Resources Committee on Tuesday 7th November it was approved to relocate the town’s Christmas Light Market and Switch On event from
Fore Street/Market Street to the Town Park, outside Trowbridge Civic Centre. The Committee considered a number of issues related to building works scheduled to take place at the Town Hall, road works in Market Street, electricity supply issues and disturbance to public transport.
The change in location allows the council to run this event in conjunction with the Christmas Fair presented by Cow Parsley and held in the Civic Centre on the same day. This will provide a much larger event for all to enjoy from 10am on Saturday 25th November. Both the outside and inside fayres will complement each other, with a wide range of different crafts, gifts and food for the public to try and purchase, both are free to enter. The stage will be located in the avenue of trees which will host a range of local school choirs, local performers and a headline band to build up to the light switch itself at 5.30pm. Lights will be switched on by a winning child entry to the ‘decorate the council’s Christmas tree’ competition along with Trowbridge Ted, Peppa Pig and the Town Crier and Town Mayor. With small fair rides provided by Jennings and inflatables provided by Active Trowbridge, children will be well entertained at this family friendly event throughout the day.
We look forward to welcoming you all to join us to celebrate the switch on and its impressive new light displays in the park and firework finale. You are also invited to join the Mayor at the annual Shoppers Carol Service held at the Parish of St James Church from 5.45pm only a short walk away from the town park. This will give you the opportunity to see the Christmas lights all the way from the park and through the town centre where the town’s Christmas tree is situated.
