Our newest member of the team, Emy, took her family to Old Wardour Castle near Tisbury for a picnic over the weekend. The castle remains are set in the middle of a big open green which means there is lots of space for children to run around playing knights and princesses with toy swords from the gift shop. Once inside the castle remains, you can climb the old stone staircases up to the top to take in the amazing view of the lake and the surrounding area, that’s if you don’t mind heights. The site is steeped in history and there are signs all over the castle explaining what each room was used for. There is a small admission fee but you can spend all day there if you wish, with toilet facilities and a shop for refreshments on site. The castle is open from 10am until 6pm everyday throughout the summer. Dogs are welcome as long as they are kept on a lead. Emy’s son thoroughly enjoyed exploring the castle and slept the whole way home in the car whilst Emy’s daughter enjoyed her first picnic and a crawl around on the grass. It’s a beautiful spot for a picnic and a really lovely drive through the countryside to get to.
