Last year we asked the local community to knit poppies for us to display around the town for Remembrance Sunday. We were overwhelmed by how many people donated their time and knitting skills to help. Shaws The Drapers in Castle Place even supported the event by holding a Knit and Natter event, where they taught people to knit (including the Mayor and members of Trowbridge Town Council), also giving out free knitting needles and wool.
All the poppies were carefully taken down after the Remembrance Service and taken home to be washed. They have since been stored and are waiting to be displayed again this year.
We are now asking for even more poppies for us to display again this year and hopefully we can fill our town even more! Click here for our knitted poppy pattern, and here for crochet and a simple ribbed knitted pattern.
Shaws are also kindly hosting a knit and natter on Saturday 26th October 2019 from 9am to 5.30pm. Everything will be provided for you, so if you don’t know how to knit but want to contribute, come along!
Please drop them into reception by Monday November 4th, at Trowbridge Town Council, Civic Centre, St Stephen’s Place. For more details, contact the Information Team on firstname.lastname@example.org.
