I was greatly honoured to be elected Mayor of Trowbridge, Wiltshire’s county town in May this year. Now, just over halfway through my period of office, I am delighted to share with you that it has been not just exciting and interesting but extraordinarily rewarding, for I have been able to meet the hundreds of people who represent and participate in so many vibrant organisations in the town and the surrounding districts. These voluntary groups support every aspect of our community and we are all greatly indebted to them.
I must also pay tribute to the tremendous support I have had from my fellow councillors (not forgetting my wife Angela, the Lady Mayoress, and our Deputy Mayor Councillor Peter Fuller) and also from our exceptional and dedicated staff at the Town Council, led by our Town Clerk and Chief Executive, Lance Allan: every aspect of this service is outstanding.
In 2020, I look forward to the ‘Celebrating Trowbridge’ event to be held on Saturday 8th February at both The Civic and The Town Hall, which will provide an opportunity not just for myself to meet more people, but for all those involved in voluntary, care, charitable and leisure organisations to communicate and collaborate, while they will be able to appreciate the often unrecognised but excellent facilities our town offers.
I am sure that the next five months will provide me with as much pleasure as the past part of my Mayoral term has, and I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Happy Christmas and a successful New Year.
Councillor David Cavill FRSA
