While we all remain in COVID-19 lockdown, if you fancy a taste of Caribbean sunshine, Jerk Stop will be happy to serve it up. Based in Trowbridge, this outdoor catering company was set up in July last year by Jermaine Scott, 28, and his partner, Antonia Lilley, 27, providing a fusion of Caribbean and English food, priding themselves on using fresh produce. However, seeking an opportunity to be able to provide a takeaway service in the town, in January 2020 they took over the kitchen at the Stallards Inn in the town and since lockdown began in March, business has really taken off.
Jermaine says “It’s been absolutely amazing. We couldn’t have asked for better in the current climate. Our sales are up by 30 per cent and we just can’t keep with the demand.”
The menu includes such Jamaican favourites like jerk chicken with rice and peas, browned chicken stew with rice and peas, deep fried plantain bananas, sweet potatoes, fried chicken, and Jamaican patties. American-style desserts are also available – click here for menu and prices.
Prices range from £2 for side orders, to £7.25 for main dishes, and they are offering two desserts, American-style apple pies at £1.49 each and two warm chocolate cookies for £2.49.
Jerk Stop are currently open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings from 6pm to 11pm. Collections are available from 6.25pm and deliveries from 6.45pm: deliveries are being made by two part-time drivers, with a guarantee that they remain contact-free under the current social distancing restrictions. Also, Jerk Stop hopes to be able to continue with its outside catering operation as and when the current COVID-19 crisis ends.
