Believe this land was to separate Hilperton and Trowbridge not for people to make a profit!

The Town Clerk replies:
Wiltshire Council and an independent inspector appointed by the Secretary of State approved the Wiltshire Council Housing Sites Allocation Plan for new housing including the Hilperton Gap between Elizabeth Way and the edge of the town. This was despite significant opposition from Trowbridge Town Council, councillors and residents. The Town Council also argued that the way in which the brownfield sites such as Innox Mills were treated by Wiltshire Council was wrong and should have been properly accounted for in their plans. The Hilperton Gap allocation is now subject to planning applications and proposals from four separate developers/land owners and is likely to see around 500 houses built. All of the development land is situated in Hilperton Parish and is therefore not part of Trowbridge Town Council area.
So it begins! This is the beginning of the end for the Hilperton Gap. All our green spaces built on with little regard for protecting the countryside.
I am aware that Trowbridge needs more homes but the already available ‘brown field’ sites near the town centre have not yet been given planning consent. These ‘brown field’ sites should be the priority over covering our green spaces with concrete and tarmac.
I am appalled that building on green fields is even considered.

So people that live in the village of hilperton will have no boundary or distinction from trowbridge as we will joined. Will we have a reduction in our council tax as we pay extra for village services? As we are already joined from the wyke road end. Also what extra services will be put in like schools, doctors, sewers as hilperton already had sewers problems. I’m not surprised that you would go down the easy route of destroying our green field sites rather than get the Brown field sites done first as you will just want the lovely back hander that the council will get for passing planning !
Good morning Sharon
I hope you are staying well at this time. Thank you for your comment, and your interest in our website. I will make sure that this is passed on to our Chief Executive.

Dear Sharon
Hope this finds you well: as promised, here is a response from our Town Clerk and Chief Executive . . .
“Wiltshire Council has developed plans over many years to allocate significant development in and around Trowbridge. This includes the Core Strategy which allocates the area to the south east of the town for 2500 houses at ‘Ashton Park’ and which has been delayed for some years but should commence next year. In addition they have now approved the Wiltshire Housing Sites Allocation Plan (assessed by an independent inspector appointed by the Secretary of State) which identifies six sites including the land in the Hilperton Gap to the south and west of Elizabeth Way. These six sites will deliver a further 1200 houses. This means that Trowbridge will see over 300 houses per year built in the the period 2021 to 2030 and should also include the Bowyers site (Innox Mills). Ashton Park will also deliver a new road by-passing West Ashton and improving the junction at Yarnbrook. Trowbridge Town Council opposed the allocation of the land at the Hilperton Gap and some of the other sites and still considers that Wiltshire Council has NOT correctly accounted for the brownfield land. The development land in the Hilperton Gap is all in Hilperton Parish and therefore not in the Trowbridge Town Council area. Wiltshire Council is now working on the plan for the future, up to 2036. Wiltshire Council has to build the houses somewhere, if you think Trowbridge area (including Hilperton, West Ashton, North Bradley and Southwick) already has plans to provide sufficient then you need to let Wiltshire Council know where they should be built in Wiltshire in the period beyond 2030.”

I’m in the construction industry, specifically in the kitchen sector for provision of goods to large housing estates. I live in trowbridge and I’ve got to say I agree that this land shouldn’t be built on. For a start, the infrastructure of the Town wont suffice. Since the development of the retail park and now new 88 house development on Bradley Road (newland homes) and the eventual development of Innox Mills mixed site by the train station……moving a mile in this town will take an hour. Its already happening now. At peak times, the train station and Bradley road are gridlocked every day…….four times a day! The retail parks aren’t big enough to accommodate such a surge in population. They aren’t big enough now. The people of Staverton will go mental when they hear about this. Schools. Supermarkets roads. Dentists. Doctors. There isnt enough of these basics to accommodate this…..but what am I saying? Money money money! You’ll likely pack as many houses into that space with no regard for the Town and then move on to the next one!

There are three developers soon to start digging up the Hilperton Gap and yet both Trowbridge Town Council and Hilperton Parish are supposedly against these building works! Facts are both town and parish councils are as much use as a chocolate tea-pot.
We the electorate put you into these committees on the promise you would listen to us and make a difference. Well it’s the same old tosh on different a day. It’s time to grow a pair and start listening to us. The town council boundary did abut the land in question and had the opportunity to possibly stop such controversial developments.
Wiltshire council planning ,you and governments have sistermactially destroyed county by county with over development causing air pollution ,river pollution litter pollution destroying our countryside year after year no respect no control of our environment and the destruction of our physical and mental well being . HANG YOUR HEADS IN SHAME.
Good morning
Thank you for your interest in this article which appears on the Trowbridge Town Council website. We appreciate your concerns, yet feel you would be better disposed to address the matter directly with the Planning Department at Wiltshire Council. Thank you again.

Further to this Wiltshire Council planning ,your proposed Ashton park development is right adjacent to Packscroft Mead sprawling toytown development .Why don’t you just call it Packscroft extended again phase 9 a never ending estate of mas upon mas overpopulation to the detriment of the people living there and beyond.
On a final note to Wiltshire Plantation council oh sorry I mean planning . We and i speak for many people living in Trowbridge regarding Tesco car park and muckdonalds ,WE DON’T WANT IT END OFF, and all the litter ,noise , and destruction to the wild life along the river biss ,and families living near by . Wiltshire core strategy ? R_ _ _ _n to the core .
