Recently opened just off the town centre, new Trowbridge business ‘The Spud Buds’ offers delicious jacket potatoes cooked in a professional oven, giving nice crispy skins and soft fluffy potato in the middle served with a choice of tasty toppings (some of which are gluten-free, and there are some vegan options). There is also a fresh salad bar for customers from which to choose their garnish. The cafe has now started to serve an all-day full English breakfast menu, as well as desserts and daily specials.
Manager Tina Lawes says “The reason we chose to open spud buds was to offer a healthy option for our customers other than kebabs, chips, and pizza, so we wanted to offer Trowbridge something different. We realise we are taking a big risk trying to start a new business venture during the coronavirus pandemic, but we’re also happy to offer delivery, so we’ve had quite a few elderly people or people that have had to self-isolate or shield. They love that we can deliver a healthy meal to them, and we’ve also delivered to the ambulance station and to staff at Trowbridge Hospital.”
Tina continued “The only thing we are finding hard is that people don’t realise where we are, as since the Main Post Office has closed, not many people make their way so we have started delivering leaflets to homes. We would love eventually to be able to move to bigger premises, and have a larger amount of customers as we offer a healthy choice and something completely different than many takeaway or cafes in Trowbridge. Also, during the winter months we will be offering dishes like stew with dumplings, and liver and bacon or shepherds pie as toppings for our jacket potatoes.”
