Trowbridge Town Council Environmental Working Group had another extremely positive meeting in early October. The working group is made up of local environmental organisations, individuals concerned with environmental matters and town councillors from across the spectrum, to coordinate and assist each other in trying to make Trowbridge a greener, healthier and happier place for everyone.
After discussing the need for local green energy production, it was decided that the group and by extension hopefully the full Town Council will push for any development resulting from Trowbridge winning the £23 million Future High Street Fund bid to incorporate renewable energy creation. This could be from heat pumps, for example, and could act as an exemplar and a catalyst for more schemes throughout the town.
Matt Callaway from Trowbridge Eco and Kez Garner from Trowbridge Chamber of Commerce informed the group that they had been able to secure thousands of trees to be planted in November and February. The idea is to plant 2021 trees in and around Trowbridge for the year 2021 and there will be a big push to get the local community involved. This will be a fantastic way of bringing the whole community together enabling everyone to make a positive contribution to the effort of tackling climate change and the ecological emergency on a local level.
