Shops and businesses in several Wiltshire towns have been supporting Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service’s first-ever Christmas Trail.

The aim of the trail is to get children out and about with their parents or carers, in a Covid-secure way, to learn more about fire safety.

Education Coordinator for DWFRS Yasmine Ellis said: “In the areas where the trail is running, shops and organisations are displaying Christmas posters with a safety message and hidden letter.

“Spotting the hidden letter, the children can then work out the answer to the secret safety message and then enter our prize draw to win a Playmobil fire vehicle.”

Posters can be found in various locations in Devizes, Melksham, and Trowbridge. For an entry form and further information, please visit www.dwfire.org.uk/dwfrs-christmas-trail before January 4.

DWFRS have issued the following advice for those wishing to participate in the trail:

  • Please only walk around in your family bubble
  • Please only go into the shops if you want to buy something, and adults are advised to wear a mask as required
  • Wash your hands or use hand sanitiser regularly
  • Stay at least one metre apart from others not in your bubble.

There are other fun Christmas activities for children on the DWFRS website, including a special Christmas safety story and a festive Glue & Make – just visit www.dwfire.org.uk/education/christmas-safety.
