If you are considering putting yourself forward as a candidate in the upcoming local unitary elections and town and parish council elections, Wiltshire Council have created an appointment booking system to make it easier for the submission of nomination forms to their Elections Team. The system has been put in place to help safely manage the number of nominations received, and also to comply with COVID-19 guidance, including social distancing.
However, the Elections Team has recently noticed a sharp rise in the number of prospective candidates turning up without an appointment. Therefore, the new booking system is there for the safety of those wishing to submit a nomination form, and also that of Wiltshire Council staff: it is also designed to to ensure that there are not too many people in the building at any one time, so once again the Elections Team would reiterate the importance of booking in advance. Anybody turning up without an appointment may have a long wait until they can be seen: also, it cannot be guaranteed that those without an appointment will be seen at all, as those who have made an appointment will be seen first, and prioritised for checking and submission of nomination papers. Therefore, please ensure an appointment has been made prior to visiting the team: the deadline for receiving nomination papers is Thursday 8th April, at 4pm.
There are three hubs for nomination deliveries, dependent on the particular Electoral Area of Wiltshire in which prospective candidates are interested in standing:
- South: The Council House, Bourne Hill, Salisbury SP1 3UZ
- Central: County Hall, Bythesea Road, Trowbridge BA14 8JN
- North: Nomination delivery to Monkton Park, Chippenham SN15 1ER
