From Councillor Peter Fuller, Mayor of Trowbridge:
“I am sure that the people of Trowbridge will join me in offering the town’s condolences to Her Majesty The Queen and members of the Royal Family on the passing of HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, in memory of his many years’ loyal service to the nation and the Commonwealth.”
As a mark of respect during the Royal mourning period, the Union Flag at the Civic Centre will fly at half-mast until the day of the funeral. The Civic Centre will also be lit up in purple until the day of the funeral.
St. James’ Parish Church in Trowbridge town centre has been considering the possibility of opening throughout the coming days for visitors wishing to sign a Book of Condolence. However, in view of Covid-19 guidance coming from a number of sources including the Lieutenancy Office at Wiltshire Council, it is now being suggested that tributes should be made in special online books of condolence: therefore, the church will be considering reconsider its plans for the remainder of the mourning period. In the meantime, mourners can leave a message of condolence at this link.
The church is also planning a designated area within the church grounds for floral tributes to be laid.
