Wiltshire Council have given notice that further carriageway resurfacing works programmed along Shails Lane & the B3106 Hill Street, Wicker Hill & Stallard Street, Trowbridge, between the junction with Westcroft Street and the mini roundabout with Bythesea Road will take place over the last two weeks of May. Please click here to view the plan.

The works along Shails Lane & the B3106 Upper Broad Street & Hill Street have previously been completed.  The outstanding works will be undertaken between the junction with Fore Street, along Wicker Hill and Stallard Street up to the junction with the A363 Bythesea Road. These works involve resurfacing the outstanding section of carriageway, the installation of new road markings and the adjustment of surface ironwork.

The works will continue on Friday 14th May 2021 and will be completed by Friday 28th May 2021 between the hours of 19:00 and midnight (no weekend working). However, on occasion they may over -run due to uncontrollable circumstances such as plant breakdowns, if weather conditions are unfavourable, or perhaps the need for additional repairs once the work has started. The road will be open as normal outside of these hours.

During this phase of works access will be available from Fore Street into Hill St and Upper Broad Street. Due to the nature of the works and the local environment, the works will be carried out within a temporary road closure, to ensure that adequate health & safety is maintained for the contractor & local residents.

The main diversion route for all northbound traffic will be:

  • Heading southbound on the B3106 Wicker Hill, Stallard Street and turn left onto Bythesea Rd.
  • Continue onto A361 County Way & Hilperton Rd.
  • Then continue onto Hilperton Relief Rd, Elizabeth Way.
  • Then follow Canal Rd and turn right onto B3106 The Down, B3106 Islington, B3106 Prospect Place, B3106 British Row & Conigre.
  • Then turn right onto Fore Street.

Southbound traffic will head north on Shails Lane & Seymour Road.

  • Continue northbound on B3106 Canal Rd and onto Elizabeth Way & Hilperton Relief Rd.
  • Join A361 Hilperton Road & A361 County Way.
  • Then continue onto A363 Bythesea Rd.

The Contractor will maintain pedestrian access for residents for the duration of the works; however, dependent on what operation is being undertaken and where, when accessing or egressing from their property in vehicles, road users may experience a delay and have to wait for plant to be moved out of the carriageway. It has been suggested that when leaving their property, they allow extra time for any possible delays and also when returning to their property: there will be traffic management operatives located at the extents of the works, who will be able to assist.

Signage will be in place advising that businesses will be open as usual.
