On one of her first public engagements since having been elected on May 18th as Mayor of Trowbridge, Councillor Denise Bates tried her hand at the gentle game of bowls recently. At the invitation of Trowbridge Bowls Club, Cllr. Bates spent a couple of hours at the club, based in the Town Park: the club was holding an open weekend as part of the Bowls Big Weekend, a nationwide initiative which took place over the late May Bank Holiday, designed to inspire more people to take up the sport. Cllr. Bates said “I’d like to thank the club for inviting me along – the glorious late spring weather certainly added to the occasion. As we gradually ease more and more out of the pandemic, I think it’s important that we support our small local sports clubs, and by participating ourselves, we can all improve our health and wellbeing.”
