Councillor Denise Bates, Mayor of Trowbridge, hosted the town’s Mayoral Civic Service at St. James’ Church, Trowbridge, on Sunday July 4th. This was the first such service since 2019, as the Covid pandemic meant that last year’s had to be cancelled: the service of lessons, readings and hymns was attended by a smaller than normal congregation, due to social distancing measures, amongst whom were the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire, Mr Angus McPherson, and Trowbridge MP, Dr. Andrew Murrison.

A collection was made at the service in support of Mayor Councillor Bates’ two chosen charities, Dorothy House Hospice and Bath Cancer Unit Support Group: the two charities were those chosen by Mayor Councillor Bates’ predecessor, former councillor Peter Fuller. Unfortunately, and once again due to the pandemic, fund-raising activities during Mr. Fuller’s tenure were limited: however, since the start of the current mayoral year, both charities have received a cash boost, and it is hoped that this will continue.

The service, which began at 6.30pm, is available to view online at http://www.stjamestrowbridge.co.uk/ourservices.html or on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCyiq5jCdj_kkd6hgL0FpJrw
