At the Policy & Resources committee meeting on Tuesday 1st March 2022, it was confirmed that Trowbridge Town Council will be responsible for a range of additional services, transferred from Wiltshire Council later this year.
From 1st December 2022, Trowbridge Town Council will be responsible for the following services which are currently undertaken by Wiltshire Council and its contractors:
- Litter bins and emptying service,
- Barrow operative street cleaning service,
- Recreation grounds (Stallards, Seymour & Elm Grove)
- Paxcroft Brook open space, including the Cricket Ground
- Biss Meadows
- Local amenity grass cutting and hedge trimming e.g. Broadmead, Lamb Ale Green and Lowmead
- Fly-tipping and Roadkill
- Fore Street Wednesday Market.
Until these services have been transferred, any residents that have any concerns regarding the above should still contact Wiltshire Council.
Trowbridge Town Council are looking forward to formally adopting services from Wiltshire Council and improving levels of service within the town. These additional services has resulted in an increase in the town council’s share of the Council Tax greater than inflation but Trowbridge still charges less than most town councils in Wiltshire.
The Neighbourhood Services department will be responsible for these services in addition to the, play area maintenance, street sweeping and weed removal services we have already been improving across the town.
Residents and businesses will see improvements and will be able to report all issues to report@trowbridge.gov.uk . Trowbridge Town Council will ensure that reports are actioned speedily and will Make Trowbridge Better.
I look forward to Trowbridge Council taking over the Paxcroft Park area. The cycle/footpaths are badly overgrown and all the walking surface markings have faded away. The brook badly needs a clearout of overgrown foliage. I wonder if the Barrow operative street cleaning service will be extended to Paxcroft Mead which was transferred into Trowbridge from Hilperton with a huge hike in council precept.
As my Trowbridge Council precept has now risen by 19.5% on last year I wiil be monitoring the progress.
Just over the border in Hilperton – but Trowbridge born and bred – great news for the town. the wheel going in full circle. Wiltshire Council took on more than they could chew when they took virtually everything from local councils.Back to the good old days. Another step in the right direction.
It is good that these additional services are being taken on by the Town Council as we know that they are services that the Town Council will do better. While this will increase the Town Council’s Precept it is unlikely that there will be a corresponding decrease in Wiltshire Council’s element of the Council Tax charge.
Wiltshire council have been using glyphosate weed killers that poison our waterways and wildlife. Will you end this practice? Living flowering plants are essential and much more beautiful than brown, crispy, dead foliage.
I live in the Newtown area and was devastated by what was done to my street and peoples front gardens last summer.
