Hope for families facing tough Christmas
Once again, The Salvation Army in Trowbridge is calling on the local community to donate brand new toys to its Christmas appeal which will support families in need over the festive season.
Sadly, we know that this will be another really tough Christmas for local families. As the cost of living increases hit home, the number of children potentially receiving no present will be even greater this year, so please support the appeal and share some hope this Christmas. The Salvation Army will collect, sort and distribute the gifts to children and families in the area through their contacts at social services.
Salvation Army church leader Territorial Envoy Michala Lancefield said: “Every year we ask people to donate brand new unwrapped toys and gifts to our Christmas present appeal so we can distribute them to families whose children would otherwise not receive a gift. The people of Trowbridge and the surrounding areas are so generous each year and we couldn’t help those in need without your support. This year, we are expecting the number of families requesting help to rise as a result of the extra pressure on already tight family budgets. By adding an extra present or gift to your shopping list this year you can remind families facing a tough winter that their communities care.”
Gifts can include anything from soft and educational toys for the very youngest child, to games, toys, books, toiletries and accessories for older children. All donations must be brand new and should be unwrapped.
Michala continued: “We are in the final planning stages for this year’s appeal which will run from 14th November to 4th December. Between those dates you can take your donations to the following locations:
Tesco Extra, County Way, Trowbridge
The Shires Management Office, Trowbridge
Morrisons Warminster
Morrisons Westbury (starts on 15th November)
We will also be providing two opportunities for people to bring their kind donations directly to our church building in Castle Street, Trowbridge. The dates for this are FRIDAY 2nd DECEMBER FROM 4.30PM-6.30PM and SATURDAY 3rd DECEMBER FROM 10AM-2PM.
Thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity. It means a great deal to The Salvation Army and even more to those whom we are able to support.”
A church and charity, The Salvation Army expresses its Christian faith by offering friendship, practical help and support to some of the most disadvantaged people in our communities.
